I just finished reading the book Finding Common Ground: How To Communicate with Those Outside the Christian Community... While We Still Can by Tim Downs. This book really challenged me especially chapter 6, entitled "Outside-In." This chapter talks about how in the Christian community so often we push Christians to move out of the secular work environment into a "ministry" career when in fact, we need Christians on the "inside." As someone who has worked almost exclusively for Christian organizations, this has really caused me to do some thinking. Especially seeing as I'm in a career transition of sorts right now.
I struggle with wanting to use my gifts to serve the church versus wanting to use my gifts to make a kingdom impact. Can I do both? I think I can, but is that the best thing for me to do? I really don't know the answer to that question right now. Something to ponder.
